The Vietnam War was a gruesome war with many men never coming back the same. This is a quick look at some of these brave men.
Top left- A group of young men in a ditch in 1969 with their guns ready to fight. The terrain was rough in Vietnam and ending up in a ditch in the forest like this for protection was common.
Top Middle- Taken in 1968, this picture shows a group of men running away to get medical help. It shows the gruesome side of was, but also the youth of the men that are badly hurt.
Top Right- Troops are being picked up along a dirt road in 1971. Some of these men will be sent home, while most will be relocated to another division in Vietnam.
Middle Top Left- Soldiers sitting on a log bored, but also worried and discouraged about their life and the war itself. Taken in 1969, many men came home with mental problems because of the war.
Middle Top Middle- Vietnamese soldiers ready to fight their northern neighbors. Many people forget they fought alongside Americans. It was taken around 1968.
Middle Top Right- "War is Hell" is written on this soldiers helmet to send home a message to all those who see the picture. Many soldiers became disillusioned with the war and wanted to go home. Taken around 1968.
Middle Bottom Left- Soldiers carrying a wounded soldier off of the helicopter and to the medical area. Many of these young soldiers died in Vietnam or had to get many amputations. Taken in 1967.
Middle Bottom Middle- The terrain was rough in Vietnam and many times soldiers had to walk through high water and marshes, which is shown in this 1970s picture.
Middle Bottom Right- This 1971 picture shows the youth of the soldiers fighting in the war and their inward innocence. They are play a childhood game that one would not expect to see soldiers playing.
Bottom Left- Helicopters fly over these soldiers as they go on to bomb, carry supplies, or attack the Northern Vietnamese. Taken in 1969, it shows the manpower the United States used in trying to fight.
Bottom Middle- Two wounded soldiers in 1968 that even after receiving some medical treatment are in bad shape. The medical care was the best they could do at the time, but could not be the best so there were many casualties.
Bottom Right- Soldiers marching home from war. These young boys had to grow up in a hurry and would not ever be the same. They receive the best welcome they could get from their family and friends.
